Monday Blahs.

Just got back from raging hard (at the dining court) and double-fisting (my dessert).

Ha ha ha ha...I know, I'm hilarious.

But seriously: taco soup for lunch and angel food cake and pumpkin ice cream for dessert?  Yeahhh, that was pretty epic.

Nothing much to report today.

I talked in my sleep last night.  I went to be around midnight and woke up at 1 to find my roomie staring at me and laughing.  She told me I had been talking in my sleep and saying things like, "Look how cute!" and "Look at the ceiling!" while petting my pillow or something.  She thought it was ridiculous, and when I tried to explain myself and tell her about the dream I just had, I couldn't remember it at all.  Now I just look like an idiot.

It's getting pretty chilly here, but I refuse to wear my winter coat.  I will NOT accept the fact that Jack Frost is about to make himself at home here and before long I'll be trudging through snow banks so I can get an education.  I'd prefer to be in denial, thank you very much.  However, this IS perfect snuggle weather...now I just need to find someone to snuggle with...where are my cats when I need them?

My Taylor Swift CD still hasn't come in the mail yet.  C'mon, Target, get your act together.  It's a HUGE mistake to withhold Taylor Swift from teenage girls.  Bad things will happen.

I don't know why it took me so long to realize, but I finally figured out what it is that makes high schoolers so angry to be in high school and want to be in college so bad.  Granted, I wanted to get out of high school too when I was there, but I never really knew why.  The reason: sweet, sweet freedom.  I didn't realize how much freedom I actually have here.  It's so fantastic.  There aren't really that many unnecessary rules I'm forced to comply to. (Except the rule in residence halls of having to escort members of the opposite sex onto your floor.  I have friends at schools where girls and guys live right down the hall from each other; why do I need to escort them to my floor?  I'm too lazy to go down 2 flights of stairs to get my friend, only to have to walk back up them.  They should just be able to go up themselves.)

For once, I'm actually happy to be in school and I don't want it to end.  It's already the end of October and before long, my first semester in college will be over.  This. Is. Crazy.

I have 2 exams this week and a big Spanish presentation...boooooo.

I've been eating cinnamon gum like it's my job.

Deuces.

Riddle Me This.

Why is it that I'm not like a vast number of other students here?

Why is it that I don't see the enjoyment of going out partying and drinking every weekend?  Am I missing out on what college is supposed to be?  Am I missing out on fantastic experiences I'll remember for years to come?  Or perhaps awesome stories that I can share with my friends?

What is it that deters me from wanting to be a part of this?

Perhaps you think this is me complaining about how I'm not out on this Halloween weekend drinking myself silly.  Maybe you think I'm sitting here at my computer feeling sorry for myself because I'm not getting up close and personal with some guy while dressed in a provocative Halloween costume.  In reality, I'm just curious.  Is my brain wired differently from my fellow classmates?  I don't know.  All I know is that the more I'm around this partying scene, the more frustrated I get.  What's fun about forgetting what happened to you the night before?  Or getting into compromising situations with members of the opposite gender that you regret the next morning?  Maybe I just don't know what I'm missing out on because I've never tried it.  But somehow, it just doesn't seem right for me.

On a less depressing note, my mom, grandma, and sister came up to visit today.  It was so great getting to see them!  I introduced them to the endless food options at Wiley dinning court, showed them around campus a little bit (although my mom and sis have already seen it), and went to Chauncy to check out the latest quirky merchandise at Von's and to eat at Red Mango (frozen yogurt).  Plus, my mom brought up another stash of food to last me to Thanksgiving (including pumpkin bread and puppy chow--my favorites!).  I even got some new Purdue Nike shorts and a hoodie, woot woot!  I was so happy to see them...you gotta love your family :)

I just got back from watching Quarantined 2, Insidious, and Paranormal Activity 3 with Christian and his roomie, Matt.  Nothing like getting into the spirit of Halloween with some scary movies!

Alright, that's all for now, folks.

What's Happening To Me??

I did what I told myself I'd never do...

...I overslept and missed a class.

There, I said it.  And trust me, I'm kicking myself for it.  But it was completely unintentional.  Megan woke me up at 8:30 and told me that it was 8:30, which was when class started.  I had a mini heart attack and sat up in my bed, freaking out.  I tried doing some hasty calculations in my head (if it takes me 10 minutes to wash my face and brush my teeth and get dressed, plus another 5 to run a brush through my hair and put on some makeup, and then 15 minutes to walk to class...yeah, not worth it).  Nothing special was happening today, and luckily my partner and I turned in our presentation outline early, so I just missed some homework points.  Instead I utilized my free time to catch up on some sleep.

But still.  I look like such an irresponsible student.  I hate that.

How in the world did I not hear my alarm going off?  How did Megan not hear it go off?  (She also had an 8:30 and missed it).  Our next door neighbor heard it, and she's not even in the same room!

You live and learn I guess.  Maybe I'm officially a college student now?

On the plus side-my mom and sister and grandma are coming up tomorrow for the day to hang out!  It'll be a good time.

Check Out The Poll!

Side note!

On the right side of the screen, you should see a poll asking the question, "Who Reads This Blog?"

Please vote-I'm trying to get a rough estimate of the majority of my readers so I can provide information accordingly!  Thanks!

I Learned a New Skill.

...It's called long-boarding!  I'm not sure if it's like this on all campuses, but long-boarding is all the rage here at Purdue.  From what I can gather, a long board is basically like a skateboard, except its more maneuverable because you're able to steer it better.  There are a ton of students here (primarily male) who long-board to class because, as you know by my plethora of complaints, classes are pretty far away.  But Christian let me practice on his in my hallway today, and it was a lot of fun!  I know,  I'm such a bro...

Here's a quick list of facts and goings-on right now:

1. I'm hardcore procrastinating.  I have a history exam tomorrow that I've barely studied for (whoops), but I don't feel like studying at all.  Hey, I've mastered the art of BSing in that class and have yet to receive less than an A on an assignment.  For those of you who knew me in high school, you know that this mentality is incredibly uncharacteristic of me, but I guess college changes you :).  Forreal though, don't worry!  I'm doing fine academic-wise!

2.  I decided that the best possible investment I made for school was rain boots.  For some reason, water just accumulates on the sidewalks everywhere and it's such a relief to be able to tromp through the puddles without having to worry about wet feet.

3.  I can't decide where I want to live next year.  Apparently we should be thinking about that already...

4. I registered for classes for next semester.  The class that I really wanted for an HONR course was full, so I had to take a different one, which messed up my whole schedule.  As it is on my schedule now,  I'll have 6 classes on Monday with only one 1-hour break.  But no class on Thursdays!

5.  Dance Marathon is coming up on November 17-18!  We started a team for the girls and guys of our floor (Shreve Fantastic Delta Fourth) and are in the process of getting t-shirt stuff together, but I need your help with donations!  Each participant needs to raise $100 for the children at Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis.  It's a great cause and I can't wait to be a part of it!  If you have any desire to donate any amount, even just $10, it would be greatly appreciated!  Go to www.purdue.edu/pudm to donate.  There is a button that says "donate" in the corner and you can type in my name to donate to me.  Thanks so much!

Okay, I really should get to studying...

Today Is A Day of Releases.

Finally, after two long years of anticipation, Taylor Swift has graced us with new music with her new album, Red.  It's currently playing in our room.

The sky just released a torrential downpour on the poor, unsuspecting students walking to and from classes.  I can hear their screams through my open window.

And perhaps most importantly, I'm releasing the information about my life from the past couple weeks.

Okay, honestly, that's not the most important, especially considering that nothing too interesting happened to me.  But here is what did:

FIRST HOMECOMING WEEKEND AT PURDUE

This was 2 weeks ago.  What a neat experience.  There was a parade that Friday night which was pretty fun.  Shreve Club had been working hard on the float, and it turned out absolutely fantastic!  A whole weekend of non-stop pomping for them over October Break (I was at home, hahhh) paid off because our float won first place!  And Shreve Club won Homecoming overall which was a fantastic accomplishment!  I'm so proud of everyone who was a part of it!

After the parade we went to Mackey Arena for a pep rally of sorts which was also pretty cool.  The men and womens' basketball teams made a dance and performed it to the crowd which was hilarious and awesome.

The girls and I with our awesome glow in the dark glasses at the Mackey pep rally!

FANCY DINNER

My DeVito scholars class (the one with 7 students in it) went to the John Purdue Room at the Marriott building last Thursday with the associate dean from the College of Education for dinner.  It was really neat!  The John Purdue Room was really fancy and it was actually run by students in the Hospitality/Management major.  Apparently the students go back and forth preparing the food and serving the food for the whole semester. It was very classy, but perhaps a little too fancy.  I had no idea what the heck I was doing.  There were at least 5,000 different pieces of silverware (yeah, that was an exaggeration, thanks Captain Obvious) and I ate some caprese salad which was just plain weird.  I was under the impression that I was going to be served a plate of green lettuce and an assortment of vegetables (the obvious definition of a salad, right?) but instead I was given a plate of sliced tomatoes and gobs of a strange white substance, which I found out was actually mozzarella cheese.  Yeah, it was a little too much for me.  I had pasta too which was good, and some scrumptious berry gelatto with chocolate covered strawberries...mmmm!

On our way to fancy dinner!

CHRISTIAN'S BIRTHDAY

Christian's birthday was on Saturday, so his roommate, Matt, and I baked up some desserts and on Saturday we and some of Christians closest friends got together in the lobby and we surprised him!  It was really fun and I think he enjoyed it.  I gave him Nerds and big Cheese-Its for  his present because he absolutely loves those.

MAIL

I got a fortune from a fortune cookie the other day that came true!  On Friday I got a letter from my friend Kelsey and a package from my mom!  Yay!  It was a good day!

AMERICAN HORROR STORY

The premiere of the second season of American Horror Story was last Wednesday, so we had a viewing party in my room at 10.  Christian, Alyssa, Lilly, me, and Alex (yes, the boy I referred to a few posts ago.  He still exists) all watched it, and it was fantastic, though perhaps not as good as the first season.  I guess we shall see!

So It's Been Awhile.

I promised you this blog post by the end of the week, and by golly I will give it to you.

I honestly can't think of everything I haven't reported on yet, but I'll do my best to fill you in on the important deets.

1. 2 weekends ago was parents weekend at good ol' Purdue, so mama, dad, and sissy came up to visit me!  Kourt's friend, Sara, also came up, and we all went to dinner at Bruno's, a pizza/Italian restaurant, that Friday night.  I also stocked up on candy, Nutella, and peanut butter when we went to Wal-Mart.  Kourt and Sara stayed in my room overnight to get a "real" college experience.  Except they refused to shower in our showers.  And let's be honest, you haven't been in college until you've used a communal shower.  It's like an unwritten rite of initiation.

But anyhow, we all woke up at the butt crack of dawn to get ready and go to a pancake breakfast the university put on.  The pancakes were phenomenal, and the pancake wizard (what do you call pancake flippers??) flipped the pancakes up in the air and we had to catch them on our plates to keep them.  I dropped one...how embarrassing.

I had a scholarship presentation thing for the College of Education after that, so my poor family had to sit through at least a zillion random students get awarded their scholarships and mine only took about 2 minutes.  Good.

The tour was next; I dragged my family around campus for awhile so I could show them the sites and tell them about all the traditions/superstitions related to campus.  I think they enjoyed it though.  Sara even said she was interested in possibly going here!  That made me so happy!  I'm trying to convince Kourtney too, but no such luck.  I took them down to Chauncy too, to show them the shops and such.  Oh, and also so they could see Breakfast Club.  We're such a classy school: on Saturday mornings before home games, all the 21+ students get up at 6am and go to the bars on Chauncy and get drunk.  But they all have to dress up in costumes, so it's one giant Halloween fest basically.

We went to the football game later that afternoon which was fun, especially because we won.  We ate a BBQ dinner afterwards, and then my fam left.  It was a good weekend overall.

2. A couple things from last week:

  • Some 4th floor girls went to the 4th floor guys' intramural flag football game.  We made up cheers for each player, and it was a lot of fun.
  • Sex in the Dark happened.  No, it's not what you think.  It's where everyone from Shreve who wants to could go sit in a pitch black room and ask any questions they want out loud: about relationships, sex...whatever they wanted.  It got pretty awkward at times, and I realized there are a lot of jerks at my school too.  But it was interesting at least.
  • Did I ever tell you all about how my friend Hannah at Loyola and I sent Post-It note letters to our former PE teacher, Mr. Phelps?  Well he got them the other day and posted on Facebook that he got them and that he would be sending us something soon...yayyy mail!
  • In my Spanish tutoring,  I had to help a student who speaks no English at all.  We had to translate a practice standardized test for him...basically impossible for this girl.  Tutoring there has really made me start thinking of the situations I'll be in when I have my own classroom, but it's been making me really excited.  I seriously can't wait to be a teacher!
  • I had to help 'pomp' our homecoming float for Shreve Club.  (Pomping is the act of putting tissue paper through chicken wire to make designs).  Our float is gonna look legit, let me tell you.  Shoutout to my Shreve Club 'cause they repped it out this weekend working on the float!
3. This past weekend was October break, so we got Monday and Tuesday off.  Brooke's dad picked us up on Friday to bring us home, and Christian came with us!  When we got home, we all went to our friend Chloe's house.  Almost everyone came home for the weekend, so it was great to see everyone!  We had a bonfire and danced a little and watched some TV.  Yeah, it was just like the good old days when that was basically our lives.  It was so wonderful to see everyone.  I miss them a lot.

Christian stayed at my house on Friday and Saturday nights, so Saturday he and I went and got a much-needed hair cut and some of us went to see Pitch Perfect, which turned out to be really good.  My mama made dinner (hooray, home-cooked meals!) and Katie came over that night so the fam watched Fired Up because Christian hadn't seen it.  He and I also watched a bunch of American Horror Story episodes online that night and Sunday morning/afternoon.  It was really chill and relaxing.  Except I'm kicking myself for it now because I got nothing done...oops.

On Monday, my mom, sister, aunt, grandma, and I went to Tanner's Orchard to buy a ton of pumpkin and apple food!  It was great family time, and oh so tasty.

Tuesday we came back to school.  Mama and dad took us out to Monical's though, so that was good!

Also, my parents agreed and are allowing me to go to Honduras this May for 3 weeks to study abroad through the College of Education!  I'm so incredibly excited!  It's going to be a fantastic opportunity!

4.  Okay, one last thing.  Last night, some girls on my floor convinced me to go out to SAE (a frat) with them.  I decided, what the heck?  Why not?  I have yet to have a typical college party experience, so I wanted to check it out.  Plus it was Margaritaville themed, so the floor was covered in sand and I wanted to see that.

Well, all I can say is it's just not my thing.  It's a little frustrating since I know a lot of people have fun going out, but I don't know.  I just don't find it entertaining, probably because I don't drink.  The music was good so I really wanted to dance, but my friends were a little too drunk to dance, and apparently the typical style of dancing is where a girl is literally pressed up against a guy so   close that they've basically molded into one person, and the guy's back is smashed against the wall, so it's really a man sandwich.  Yeah...not really my thing.  Plus I felt slightly obligated to make sure everyone was okay because I was the only one in my right mind there.  Not the greatest night ever I guess.  But hey, I just wanted the experience, and now I had it, so I can't complain.

But here's what I do find interesting: there are all sorts of themed parties here, and they crack me up.  I'll list them here, but WARNING: THESE THEMES ARE EXTREMELY INAPPROPRIATE.  IF YOU ARE UNDER 18 YEARS OLD OR OVER 30, I HIGHLY SUGGEST YOU SKIP OVER THIS SECTION BECAUSE YOU MAY FIND IT OFFENSIVE AND DISTURBING.  But this is an informative blog, and I want you to know what goes on here.  So here's the list I had a girl on my floor compile for me:

  • Cowboys and Indians
  • Toga party
  • Walk of Shame (wear "last night's" clothes--for girls, basically a guy's shirt and heels)
  • Tight and Bright (Tight, neon clothes for black light)
  • Risky Business (Tom Cruise?)
  • ABC (Anything But Clothes...yeah...)
  • Golf pros and tennis hoes
  • GI Joes and army hoes
  • Rave
  • Highlighter party (Write on each other with highlighters)
  • Jungle theme
  • CEOs and Office hoes (I'm sensing a theme here...)
  • Mathletes vs. Athletes
  • 10 minutes until a porno
Yeah, again, keepin' it classy Purdue.

Okay, that's all for now.  Take care, everyone!

Don't Worry, I Didn't Drop Out.

...Because I'm sure that was the first thing you thought when you saw I haven't updated my blog in about 2 weeks.

This post is to assure you that yes, I am alive and well, and no, I did not quit college because it was too much to handle and I had a nervous breakdown.  (I'm not a basket case; please give me some credit here.)

But I just received a post on my Facebook timeline from my high school journalism teacher, who we'll call "Joe Sanders," that I wasn't updating my blog enough!  (Joe Sanders, I know you really just wanna know about my life so you can relive your college days vicariously through me.  Except for my experiences probably aren't as interesting as yours were, let's be honest.)  Ahh, just kidding.  All sarcasm aside, I'm really touched that people are actually reading this thing.

So I'd like to apologize on behalf of my busyness and my laziness for not filling you all in.  I have a few things to tell you, so I'll do my best to have a real post up by the end of the week.

I hope everyone is well, and I'll write soon!
