Why Did The Girl Throw The Clock Out The Window?

She wanted to see time fly.

Well, you know what I have to say to that little girl??

Go home, you're drunk.

Because if she knew what was good for her, she would have held onto that clock and hid it under her floorboards Tell Tale Heart style because time goes by too fast anyway, so why throw it out the window?

Guess what, guys?  I go home in 3 days. 3 days. Tres días. Like, what? Where did that come from?  Didn't I just get to Purdue?  I'm pretty sure I did, like yesterday.  I'm still that little deer-in-the-headlights freshman getting lost on campus and accidentally walking into the wrong classes.  I have not spent an entire year of my life away from home yet.  There's absolutely no way.

Actually, now that I look at my desk, there is definitely a year's worth of accumulated crap here.  Just kidding.  Guess I have been here a year.

Do-do do dooo, do-do-do-do-do, do-do do dooo, do-do-do.................
(That was supposed to be the music to The Final Countdown if you couldn't tell...)

Alright, so 3 more days.  You'll probably get one more post out of me during that time.  But here's what happened in the meantime.

Thanks, Phelpsy.

Hannah, my friend from back home, and I wrote Mr. Phelps post-it note letters again, and so he sent us our own notes and t-shirts!  Huzzah!

Thanks, Mr. Phelps!

"Study" Breaks.

Jared and I got bored on Sunday.  After going to church and brunch, we decided to go exploring in Hort Park.  Which meant we went into the woods and jumped in a bunch of puddles of mud since it had just recently rained.  And we also found a nice fallen log which doubled as a stage, so we blasted some music and serenaded the woodland creatures with our impeccable voices.  Jared thought it would be a good idea to practice some provocative moves, and I fell off the log and by the end we were both caked in dirt.  Bizzare, yes.  Sometimes, when I do stuff like this, I wonder how it is that I will be 20 years old next year.

Top Down, Rollin'.

Christian's friend came up this weekend...in a convertible.  Well, I hadn't ridden in one before to my memory.  So I took advantage of the opportunity and hitched a ride around campus, blasting "Can't Hold Us" by Macklemore and singing at the top of my lungs while my hair blew like crazy.  Talk about exhilarating.  Again, how old am I?  Oh, yeah, 19, kay, cool, I'm still a teenager and can do crazy, stupid stuff like this.

Family Pictures.

The Flo' Fo' Hos took some family pictures and Leigh, my RA, put them all in a cute yearbook for us!  I love my girls!

Thanks to the Shreve Hall Faculty Fellows, Shreve residents got free food on Sunday!  Hot dogs and burgers, chips, carrots, and ice cream.  And then the fourth floor had a fondue night, courtesy of our Fac. Fellows, the Yorks and the Savianos.  #HonorsFTW.

Yessssss.

Me and my Fac. Fellow, Dr. York! (Ignore my wet shower hair)

Picnic.

There was another study break yesterday in the form of a TL picnic!  We snacked like it was our job, and then we played some sand volleyball.  It was a goooood time.

Dancing @ our picnic!

That Thing I Write About In Virtually Every Post.
Dance party.  Hahahaha I realize how sick you all probably are of my incessant blabber about dance parties.  That's literally how I will categorize my freshman year of college.
Them: Oh, how was your first year at Purdue?
Me: Dance parties.
Haha, but anyways, Sunday night, Jared, Christian, and I were all hanging out in Christian's room, and we plugged in his computer to his TV and started blaring some random, ghetto music.  And then we got in trouble with Christian's RA because it's quiet hours for finals.  Our bad.  But we kept going.  There was a lot of booty popping in that tiny room.  It was absolutely perfect, considering Christian will be gone next year and Jared will be doing a co-op and be in Chicago next semester.

Funny story time (except it's really more sad than funny):
Jess and I were at dinner and I was asking her how she was feeling about not being able to  be with Michael for the summer.  She was saying she would miss him but it'd be okay.  We talk a lot about having a boyfriend vs. not.  She loves having Michael in her life (their 6th month anniversary is coming up!) and I constantly tell her that I have absolutely loved being single this year, perhaps for the first time in my life.  So I teased her a bit and said, "Perks of being single in college: I don't have to worry about saying goodbye to my boyfriend for the summer."  Her response?  "You basically do...two times!"

And I said oh. Yeah.

Not that Jared and Christian and I are romantically connected, heck no.  But they're my good friends, and I'm losing them both.  Grrrrr.

In other news, I had my first final at 8 am this morning.  Barf.  But it went okay, and now I just have 2 more.  Christian and I are going to Chauncey to run some errands and do lunch today...I'm spending as much time with that kid as possible!!

Enjoy the nice weather everyone!!

That Ironic Time Alyssa Told Me I Was Partying Too Much.

It's true.

Miss Alyssa, my good friend and next door neighbor, member of a sorority and lover of social partying, including on weeknights, said that I was partying too much.

Of course, it was her way of making fun of herself.  But still; very ironic and very funny.

I suppose I should explain myself.

So two weekends ago, I joined Christian and Patrick and my new friend Jared and went to a couple parties.  Stop number 1: the fraternity Skulls.  With a name like that, it's bound to be sketchy.  It more or less was just a really lame country-themed get-together with a bunch of drunk kids downing some wine and such. (Wine at a frat?  Who knew?) There was a girl named Jean who was incredibly loud and obnoxious who was basically hoarding her own bottle.  It was kind of funny.  Perks of being the only sober one in the room: you get to see everyone in their ridiculousness and you actually remember it.

Then we went to 2 other house parties after that.  I had no idea where I was for most of the time, so I followed the crowd.  It was quite an interesting experience.  Plus I got my first taste of what the campus McDonald's is like at 3 am--full of drunk kids.  Because Christian insisted on ordering a McGangBang (a McChicken between a double cheeseburger...and yes I tried it).  I tell ya, I hang out with some weirdos.

That weekend also consisted of 2 movie nights; one on Saturday night with Jared where we watched part of 21 Jump Street and hung out with Alyssa, and then on Sunday night when Christian, Jess, Jared, and I watched the movie Tank Girl, a 1990s movie where an actress who looks like a mixture between Gwen Stafani and Jami Lee Curtis and Ellen DeGeneres  goes on the hunt for water in like the 2030s or something.  I don't even know. It was absolutely ridiculous, but Jared insisted that we watch it because he said it was really good.  Except it wasn't.

But anyways, every day that weekend I stayed up late and now I have a cold that hasn't gone away.  And guess what?  Boiler Crossing is out of DayQuil. #ImScrewed.

But anyways, if those parties weren't enough, I also accompanied Christian and Jared to a party at Sigma Pi on Thursday.  Why?  Let me tell you.  I had a 4 page, single spaced paper due in my HONR course the next day, and I spent a solid 5 hours in the library cranking it out.  I thought I deserved a night out.  So I went with them, met up with some other people from Shreve, danced around a bunch, and watched everyone take some shots.  When we left it was raining pretty hard which was just awesome, she said sarcastically.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why Alyssa said I was partying too much.

But you see, it was Grand Prix week, and I couldn't just sit on the sidelines and not participate in some way.

Grand Prix is the car race that Purdue has each year where different fraternities and sororities and clubs and groups build cars and race them to see who wins.  Nobody cares as much about the actual race; instead they use the week before the Saturday race to drink themselves silly all day and night and come to class inebriated and just in general be trashy and ridiculous.  Good ol' Purdue...

But that's not all I have to report.

Last weekend was also PRAAAAAAAM!!!  My dad came and picked Christian and I up after class on Friday and we went home and ordered some pizza and ate with the family.  We also went and picked up his tux, and then we came back and watched, or tried to watch, Bridesmaids.  I say try because I had taken some NyQuil for my cold and basically passed out while Christian watched the movie/listened to me and my incoherent, drugged babble.

Saturday we went and visited my grandparents who I haven't seen since October!  It was so nice to finally see them again!  We then stopped at Panera (they didn't have any freakin' plain bagels.  Who do they think they are?  I had to go with whole grain.  I don't think so, Joe Sanders), and also Smoothie King.  Yippee!  We got to visit my neighbors, the Browns, too which was wonderful of course.  Then it was time to get Christian ready. He looked all spiffy in his bow tie and tux!  Kourtney finally got home from her softball game and getting her hair done so we rushed around getting her dress on and her stuff together so we could go to pictures, which she was taking with her friends at the old Soldier's and Sailor's home.  I felt like a proud parent taking pictures of my sister and best friend because they looked SO CUTE!!! It was great.  Then we sent them off and my parents and I grabbed some Taco Bell for dinner before having to go to the school to get ready for Post Prom.

Now let me tell you, that was an interesting experience.  Since my mom was the prize coordinator, we had to help her organize the prizes, tally up the totals, etc. etc.  It was a family affair.  Throughout the night, we raffled off various prizes and cash prizes, and then at the end of the night we raffled off the big prizes onstage after the hypnotist (including 3 TVs, 2 Google Chromebooks, 3 iPads/iPad Minis, Beats headphones, and more).  All that was without a microphone, so mom, dad, and I had to shout out to the crowd with the winner's name.  Later, Christian told me that Kourtney was really embarrassed by us all on stage, which I thought was really funny.  We also had to help tear down decorations that were hot glued to the wall and impossible to come off.  Hooray... But it all went well overall!  Mom, Dad, Christian, and I all went to Denny's afterward, and finally went to bed around 6 in the morning.  Talk about exhaustion and waking up with an even worse cold at noon...

We had to be back to Purdue by 6 since Christian had his Life in Color Paint Party to go to at 7.  It was supposed to be on Thursday, but because of the weather, it got cancelled and moved to Sunday.  Well wasn't that just what everyone wanted... a huge electronic concert on the band practice fields right outside of Shreve on a Sunday night.

Steak N' Shake on the way back to Purdue!

When the concert started, the music reverberated throughout Shreve.  No matter where you were in the building, you could hear the music.  It was sooooo loud.  Annie, as well as others, expressed their anger with not being able to go to bed and being sick.

Well, I decided to take advantage of this basically free concert.  I really love Krewella, the headliner, so I dragged Jess outside with me to stand on the edge of the fence and watch the concert.  It was perfect.  We could see/hear everything perfectly, and we didn't even have to pay the $50 to get in!  The only thing we didn't get was paint sprayed on us, but that was okay, because everyone said it was really cold and messy anyways.  I was going crazy because it was so much fun!

The concert from my view

On Monday, Christian and I laid out and did some sun basking, as he called it.

On Monday night, there was a supposed meteor shower, so Jared and I went to Slayter Hill and tried to find some shooting stars.  Good news: I saw my first one!  Yayyy!! It was really nifty.  As we walked back, we checked out the damage from the concert and found buckets of leftover paint, which I took the liberty of putting on myself.  Sorry not sorry.

Having my own paint party

And as far as another crazy adventures goes, last night Christian, Jared, and I were all hanging out chilling on Christian's bed, and it all of a sudden turned into an impromptu wrestling match, and everyone almost fell off the bed.  Luckily we didn't, but the mattress did.

Ooops...

Wow, I only have one more week for my freshman year at Purdue.  There's no way it went by this fast.  I can't even believe it.  Gahhhhhh!!

Also, this is for you, Gliegs.

Ice Cream is my Staple Food Group.

I'm about to sound really fat in just a few seconds.

But please, let me justify it to you really fast:
1. If I go anywhere, it's on foot.  Walking=burning calories.
2. I've been running.  Sort of.  (There's a little mini forest park thing called Horticulture Park about a block from Shreve.  I've been taking a liking to running on the forest trails there, because there's nobody around and you sort of feel lost, but luckily the trails all wind around to exits.  Because if you know me, you know I don't have a good sense of direction.  Just one of the many things I didn't inherit from my dad.  PS, fun fact, I saw a black squirrel while I was there.  Yes dad, besides gray squirrels, we apparently have black ones.)
3. I went 40 days without ice cream for Lent, so I think this just about makes up for it.

Anyways.

On to all the ice cream I've eaten this past week.  (Wow, it's a sad life when I have to dedicate a blog entry to ice cream.  Wait, who am I kidding? It's fantastic.)

1. Last Saturday, a bunch of girls on the floor were feeling pretty restless.  The weather was nice and warm, and it's getting to be crunch time here in college land, what with our final weeks of classes and Dead Week looming in the near future.  So what did we do?  We went on an ice cream adventure to Dairy Queen at Purdue West!  It started off as a small thing...

Act I, Scene 1-Dana and Kasey "studying" outside of Shreve Saturday afternoon

Kasey: "I'm craving popsicles...do they sell them at Boiler Crossing?"
Dana: "I don't know!"

Nathan walks up

Nathan: "Hey guys, what's up?"
Dana: "Oh, you know, just studying.  You?"
Nathan: "About to go to Boiler Crossing and get some gummy worms!"
Kasey: "Oh my gosh, can you check if they have popsicles?!"

Nathan: "Sure! Be back soon."

Nathan leaves.  Kasey and Dana continue "studying." Nathan returns.

Nathan: "Sorry guys, they didn't have any.  I looked in every freezer there."
Kasey: "Rats. Thanks anyways!"

Nathan leaves

Kasey: "Hey Dana, let's go to Dairy Queen tonight."

End scene.

So it started out small, just me and Dana and also Jess.  But before we knew it, I had invited half the floor.  (I would never withhold the happiness that is ice cream from my loved ones.)

We left around 9:30 pm, along with my baby speaker cube (shoutout to my mom for thinking of such an awesome Christmas present!) and we sang and danced all the way there.  After eating, we hung out outside on some benches and had an impromptu dance party.  Aww yeah.

DQ run with the Flo' Fo' Ho's!

2. Part of TL training for BGR is having team socials where we get together and do something fun outside of the realm of BGR to get to know each other better.  So, of course, Monday night our social was at the Silver Dipper, an ice cream shop down on the levee.  I'd never been there before, but let me tell you, I will now be a frequent buyer.

The shop was within walking distance, but since Lucas and Brad both had cars, we took advantage of that.  We drove down there and then came the difficult part: make a decision on which flavor you want.

Crap.

I was overwhelmed with the possibilities.  What should I pick?!  There were your basics, chocolate, vanilla, strawberry...but what were these flavors??  Pistachio?  Green tea?  Peanut butter cup? Blueberry cheesecake? Marshmallow Oreo? Coffee?  Whaaaaaaat??

Then, I saw something out of the corner of my eye.

I had no idea what to pick, but it was as if God had sent me a sign...in the form of a sign.

"3 mini scoops for the price of 1 regular scoop"

Thank you, God!

So mini scoops it was: Cookies and cream, Fat Elvis (banana ice cream with peanut butter and chocolate chips), and Zamorano, which was basically black ice cream because it was so chocolatey.  Apparently it's one of their most popular flavors.  Now I know why. (Mom, when you come get me next weekend, let's make a stop here and you will eat that ice cream and you will love it.)

It was absolutely fantastic.  Then we jammed out in Brad's car on the way home.

3. Ag Week = Swag Week

So this whole week was Ag Week.  There were different events/promotions around campus to promote the importance of agriculture.  Well, Tuesday, the ag students were handing out ice cream.  Teehee.

They had the soft serve machines out and were teaching us how to make ice cream.  Then we got some.  And it was great.  And I loved it.

The other happenings in my life which don't involve frozen dairy products:

1. Some other stuff about ag week: There were cows on campus on Monday!  Alyssa and I headed to campus early after lunch to see the cute little baby cows.  They were absolutely adorable!  There was also an ag tent where we took a short quiz about things regarding agriculture, and we got a free t-shirt because of it!  We also got free milk cartons, and then PUDM (Purdue University Dance Marathon) had a tent too, so we got silly bands from them (guess they're still in style because I'm still wearing mine) that said FTK, which stands for For The Kids.  All in all, it was a solid day of freebies.

Alyssa with the baby cow!

2. The fountains are back on!...or are they?  One of the great things about Purdue's campus is the fact that we have a bunch of fountains.  The two biggest are the Engineering Fountain and the Loeb fountain.  Everyone in my math class was distracted today because they saw Loeb fountain from the window and saw that it had been turned on.  Everyone was so excited!  First, it means spring is officially here (even though today has been the coldest it's been all week...40 degrees...why they picked today to turn them on is beyond me.  Now that I think about it, how do you turn the fountains on in the first place...?)  Second, it means FOUNTAIN RUNS!!! Can't wait to take my new students on a fountain run during BGR.  Woohoo!

But my excitement shriveled as I came out of my next class and saw that it had been turned off.  So much for that.

3. TL training 2 was on Wednesday!  The theme for our clothing was school pictures since ShreveHart's theme overall is Kids at Heart. Our buddy TLs were announced too!  (Buddies are when we get paired with a TL from our Super's buddy group.  We do activities and stuff with them and their new students during BGR.)  They way we found out who our buddy was was through a game.  We all had to close our eyes and our Supers came and whispered a name in our ear.  With our eyes closed, we had to pretend to be this person and find our partner.  I was Kanye West, and Shey, a girl in my TL group, was saying she was a rapper (she was Jay-Z).  I was like, "Me too!" We thought that we were buddies, but our supers were like nooooo.  So then I found out my partner was Kim Kardashian, and my buddy is James!  Woohoo!  We have to go on a buddy date soon and do a random act of kindness for people on campus.  Can't wait!

Buddies, awww yeahh.

School photo!
